From Times Wire Reports

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to lash southern Newfoundland with 40 to 50 mph winds and could drop up to five inches of rain on the area, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Eric Holweg, a meteorologist at the center, said the storm is not expected to strike land, but will be off Newfoundland’s southeastern coast by Wednesday evening.

Gabrielle became the third hurricane of the 2001 Atlantic season after soaking Florida with up to 11 inches of rain.
