On its first local visit since the death of its founder last November, Amalia Hernandez’s Ballet Folklorico de Mexico performs its array of regional suites tonight at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido and from Friday through Sunday at the Universal Amphitheatre. The U.S. premiere of “Sugar Harvest in Tamaulipas” is featured, along with a revised version of Hernandez’s 16-year-old “Carnival in Tlaxcala” with new choreography by her daughters: company artistic director Norma Lopez and director of the company school Viviana Hernandez. Universal Records launched the “Organic Soul” series in New York three years ago to showcase the label’s emerging rap and R&B; artists. Now they’re setting up a West Coast outpost, inaugurating the L.A. edition of “Organic Soul” at B.B. King’s Blues Club with a show by Warren G (who is new to Universal Records, if not to L.A. hip-hop fans) and Ms. Toi, who was the only female rapper on last summer’s Up in Smoke tour.
