Four Killed as Troops Raid Homes of Ex-Rebels
Four people were killed when Philippine troops, hurling grenades, overpowered dozens of Muslim gunmen in the southern city of Marawi.
The clash began when soldiers raided several houses to confiscate weapons from suspected former members of the Moro National Liberation Front, said Col. Antonio Seville, an army spokesman. The troops came under fire, and that gun battle sparked a fire that burned two houses. Two gunmen and two civilians were killed, Seville said.
By evening, 37 gunmen surrendered after an intense grenade barrage from soldiers.
