Faulty Septic System Is Polluting Creek

From Times Staff Reports

The septic tank system at El Morro Mobile Home Park is failing, allowing untreated sewage to pollute El Morro Creek, state and county officials concluded this week.

The state Department of Parks and Recreation plans a $350,000 short-term improvement to correct failures in the leach field and distribution lines. The agency will monitor the effectiveness of the system until 2004, when tenants’ leases expire.

After the residents move out, the state plans to remove the 294 mobile homes and convert the area to a public park with campgrounds, picnic facilities and beach parking.
