Program That Helps Families May Expand
A program aimed at providing needed social services to Oxnard families would be expanded under a proposal that goes to the County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
State-funded Healthy Start centers at Cesar Chavez and Harrington elementary schools have proven so successful that the Oxnard school district wants to bring the program to two additional schools. Families needing counseling, medical care and other services are directed into the centers, which are located on the school campuses.
On Tuesday, supervisors will be asked to create four new positions--two social workers and two clerks--to bring services to Marina West Elementary School and Frank Intermediate School.
The county would be reimbursed for the $126,620 cost under an agreement with the school district.
