Blessed by Bourges

I want to thank you for your article on Bourges, France (“French 101: Bourges,” Sept. 2).
Being a native of Bourges, I found an egotistic pleasure reading about places I have patronized and love. My dad was the archivist for the region and a prominent local historian for the past 35 years.
Bourges has always suffered from a sort of middle-child syndrome: It’s a beautiful, stable, thriving little city bypassed by travelers on the way to Paris or the Loire Valley. It is a wonderful place to go back to and enjoy the small pleasures of life.
Let me extend an invitation to visit Bourges and discover more of the treasures of this region, including lesser-known wines such as Sancerre, Vouvray and Chateaumeillant, and wonderful food.
