Weapons Collection Exceeds Goal, NATO Says
NATO has collected 3,381 weapons from ethnic Albanian rebels, surpassing its goal of 3,300 and completing a key part of Macedonia’s peace process.
NATO Secretary-General George Robertson, visiting German troops taking part in the mission, said the final tally would be even higher. Collections are to end today.
Germany has offered to head a new NATO mission to protect civilians who will monitor the return of refugees and compliance with the peace accord. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization must still approve the force.
