Grand Canyon Air Tour Demand Falls Sharply
Air tour operators say demand for sightseeing trips to the Grand Canyon and other scenic destinations is down, layoffs loom, and it’ll take months for business to recover in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
“We are inextricably tied to the travel and tourism industry in Las Vegas,” said Steve Bassett, president of the U.S. Air Tour Assn., a national industry lobbying group. “The bottom line is, if no one is coming to Las Vegas, no one is taking air tours.”
Art Gallenson, operations director for Lake Mead Air in Boulder City, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his usual 30 to 150 customers a day has dropped to two or three people every three or four days.
