Chrysler Name to Go on German-Built Car

A vehicle with the Chrysler name will be built in Germany for the first time since the 1998 marriage of German auto maker Daimler Benz and Chrysler Corp.
The Chrysler Crossfire, a two-seat coupe, will be built in conjunction with Karmann of Osnabrueck, Germany, starting in 2003, DaimlerChrysler said.
Company spokesman Jan Zverina said DaimlerChrysler decided to have Karmann build the car because it will share a powertrain, axles and some underbody components and modules with the Mercedes-Benz CLK, which also is built by Karmann.
DaimlerChrysler shares rose $1.18 to $29.28 on the New York Stock Exchange.
