Client Profiles Hit Nail on Head, Builder Says

Regarding “When Builders Don’t Want Your Business” (Part I) by Lew Sichelman, Sept. 16:
Tom Stephani has hit a bull’s-eye with his profiles of trouble clients. As a former high-end home builder in Los Angeles, I am regrettably well-acquainted with each of these. The problem, in my view, is getting worse as so many buyer-clients, especially at the higher end, now view litigation as part of the game.
While it’s true that there are many sloppy builders, that alone does not explain the adversarial nature of this business, which gets increasingly corrupted by the mind-set that builders are fair game.
