All Holidays Apparently Mother’s Day for Lioness
A Kenyan lioness that has already defied nature twice this year by adopting a baby oryx--an antelope that Africa’s top predator usually likes to eat--has done it again, adopting a third oryx, officials said.
Game wardens at Samburu National Reserve said they found the lioness Saturday with a 4- or 5-day-old oryx, whom they named Easter. The lioness had previously adopted newborn oryxes around the New Year and on Valentine’s Day, officials said.
On each occasion, she has given the calves affection and protection from other lions, officials say.
