Anniversary of Falklands Occupation Is Marked

As more than 2,000 war veterans looked on, President Eduardo Duhalde insisted that Argentina would one day reclaim the Falkland Islands through diplomacy--not by waging war.
“They’re ours, and we’re going to recover them,” he said at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Argentina’s invasion of the South Atlantic archipelago. Britain recaptured the islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas, after a 10-week war.
