Glorifying Alcoholism

Share

Re: “Changed Tunes” (by Agustin Gurza, March 23): It is refreshing to hear that L.A.’s very own “king of narco-corridos” will now shift his glorification of drug-peddling songs to more traditional renditions. This, of course, comes way after Pedro Rivera’s (Long Beach-based) music label generated millions of dollars in revenue by utilizing that very same genre.

But one question still remains: Will the Rivera family continue to exploit its fan base by the unrelenting alcohol theme they recycle in most of their musical interpretations? That prospect is likely since they are in the business only to make money and not worry about the prevalent alcoholism problem that exists within the Latino community.
