Muslim leaders met with Secretary of State Colin Powell this week to press for increased U.S. involvement in the continuing crisis in the Middle East.

The Arab American Institute’s chairman, George R. Salem, and president, James J. Zogby, gave a list of recommendations to Powell, who was ordered to the region on Thursday by President Bush.

The Arab American leaders urged the implementation of a U.N. Security Council resolution that would end Israel’s military action, called for the placement of an international peacekeeping force to bring security to the region, and requested that a date be set for continuing security and political talks aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the crisis.
