On March 21, a Business section article announced “EMI to Cut 1,800 Jobs, Drop 400 Musical Acts,” and went on to say the layoffs represented 20% of EMI’s work force. Now, on March 31, the Calendar section’s Pop Eye announced that EMI made a new $50-million deal with British pop star Robbie Williams in hopes that his Sinatra-clone act will create Ring-a-Ding Mania in America, especially when he duets on “Somethin’ Stupid” with dry-ice princess Nicole Kidman. Something stupid, indeed.
Please tell me you guys thought March only had 30 days and that this latest item was intended for April 1.
