* Unocal Corp. said it will take a one-time charge of $20million in the first quarter for cleaning up environmental contamination, which will not affect anticipated first-quarter earnings of 10 cents to 15 cents a share. Analysts are expecting 17cents. Shares of El Segundo-based Unocal rose 70cents to $37.88 on the NYSE, before the announcement.

* Penske Corp., which operates auto service centers at more than 560 Kmart Corp. stores, said in court documents that the retailer may close an additional 700 stores. A Kmart spokesman said that although there are no immediate plans for more closures, “we haven’t ruled out closing other stores.”

* Barr Laboratories Inc. received regulatory approval to sell its generic copy of Organon Inc.’s birth control pill Mircette, which had sales of $150 million in the last 12 months.

* Standard Pacific Corp. agreed to buy the Miami-based Westbrooke Homes operations of Newmark Homes Corp. for $41 million cash, as part of its expansion into Florida. The deal, which includes the repayment of $54 million in debt, comes less than a week after Irvine-based Standard Pacific agreed to pay $29 million for Orlando-based Colony Homes.
