From Times Wire Reports

The 20-year-old man accused of plotting a mass murder-suicide at his community college has asked for a trial by judge because his lawyers fear that he could not get a fair hearing from a jury after September’s terrorist attacks.

Al DeGuzman’s trial on more than 100 felony counts is set to begin today. He could be sentenced to life in prison.

Authorities arrested DeGuzman in January 2001 after a photo lab clerk processed pictures of him posing with guns and explosives. Police searched DeGuzman’s bedroom and said they found the arsenal and detailed plans to unleash them on De Anza College in Cupertino the next day.
