Kevin Jon Boyle, 50, a former curator of exhibitions at the UC Riverside’s California Museum of Photography, died March 30 of melanoma at the Riverside home of friends.

Boyle joined the museum in 1987 and curated several well-received shows focusing on themes of California interest and popular culture, including “Ocean View: The Depiction of Southern California Coastal Lifestyle” and “Rearview Mirror: Automobile Images and American Identities.”

Boyle grew up in Oklahoma before his family moved to Southern California when he was teenager. He soon became interested in surfing and, for a time, made a living airbrushing textile designs for Ocean Pacific sportswear.
