State Issues Seafood Warning

The state Department of Health Services is advising Californians to avoid eating shellfish, crabs, sardines and anchovies caught in Morro Bay.
The sea life may be contaminated with domoic acid, a naturally occurring toxin that can cause illness or even death, the department said in a statement Friday.
Researchers found elevated levels of domoic acid, which is produced by microscopic marine algae, in the bay waters. A similar warning remains in place for fish caught in Monterey Bay.
Symptoms of mild domoic acid poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headaches and dizziness.
The symptoms go away in a few days.
