Port Hueneme Woman Found Slashed to Death in Bed; Husband Arrested

A 41-year-old Port Hueneme man was in custody Monday on suspicion of killing his wife, after she was found slashed in the couple’s bed over the weekend.

Alberto Mora Solis was set to be arraigned today. He was booked at Ventura County Jail on suspicion of murder after relatives called police to the couple’s Bard Road home near Parkview Elementary School about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Inside, police found the bloody body of 51-year-old Olga Solis.

Alberto Solis was at home when police arrived, said Port Hueneme Det. Ken Dobbe. The detective said the husband made “incriminating statements” when questioned by relatives and police, but Dobbe would not elaborate.

Relatives told police the Solises had a history of marital problems, Dobbe said.

Ventura County coroner’s officials said Olga Solis died from a cut to the neck. Dobbe said she appeared to have been cut with a knife and another instrument.

Police said a relative who lives in a structure behind the Solises grew suspicious Sunday afternoon when he saw the husband with cuts on his neck and wrists. That relative contacted other family members, who went to police.

The couple had no children, Dobbe said. Police said neither husband nor wife appeared to have a criminal record, and they found no history of domestic-violence calls to the house.

Police said Alberto Solis is a construction worker out on disability from a back injury.

Olga Solis was a nine-year employee of Moorpark-based Kavlico Corp., working on an assembly line making automotive sensors.

Luz Tamayo and Loni Howell, co-workers of Olga Solis who sometimes car-pooled with her, described her as a kind, quiet woman who rarely spoke of her home life but was often in a hurry to get home in time to have dinner on the table for her husband.

She had been working extra hours since her husband’s injury, they said. “Poor Olga,” Howell said. “She’s been on overtime since before Christmas trying to make ends meet.”
