Proposed Law Closes Streets to Drag Racers
City officials want to close streets popular with drag racers early in the morning to stop the illegal racing.
Under the proposed ordinance, drivers found without a legitimate reason in an off-limits area could be cited and their cars impounded.
Besides being illegal and unsafe, drag-racing affects businesses, drains police resources, creates violence and encourages vehicle theft, authorities said.
Police have used hidden video cameras to try to catch racers. They’ve also surrounded them, keeping them confined while issuing citations for illegal racing.
