Madagascar Rivals End Election Impasse
From Times Wire Reports
Madagascar’s rival presidential candidates came to an accord to end an election impasse.
The accord, which was reached in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, through mediation, commits incumbent President Didier Ratsiraka and challenger Marc Ravalomanana to awaiting the outcome of a court-ordered recount of the disputed Dec. 16 election.
If neither man emerges with a clear majority, Ratsiraka--with a prime minister agreed upon by both--would preside over an interim government for six months.
