Moses Lasky, 94; Attorney Represented the Oakland Raiders

Moses Lasky, 94, a prominent San Francisco trial lawyer whose clients included the Oakland Raiders and J. Paul Getty, died April 7 of complications from pneumonia at a San Francisco hospital.

Born in Denver, the son of Polish immigrants, Lasky entered the University of Colorado at the age of 14 and financed his education by selling books door to door. Before his 21st birthday, he had earned his bachelor’s and law degrees. Too young to be admitted to the bar, Lasky enrolled at Harvard Law School, where he earned a master’s degree.

He moved to San Francisco and eventually became a senior partner at the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. He later was a founder of the law firm of Lasky, Haas, Choler & Munter.

Along with Joseph Alioto, Lasky represented the Raiders in the 1980s. In one highly publicized case, the city of Oakland ended up paying the Raiders $4 million for lost revenue from broadcasting, attendance and luxury suites.

A collector of modern art, Lasky was a member of the board of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
