Supervisors Question Rise in Psychiatric Cases

Share
From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Siskiyou County supervisors are asking for more information on why there are so many clients being treated by the county’s behavioral health psychiatrist.

Kristin Bengyel had requested $37,800 more to bring in an outside psychiatrist for the Behavioral Health Department. Bengyel said psychiatrist Dr. Lynn Pappas is treating 1,300 clients.

Supervisors were suspicious of why the county’s caseload had increased from 350 two years ago to 1,300. Pappas said the office treats people with disorders of the brain and that brain chemistry problems had become more prevalent.
