* The world’s largest retailer is taking a test-drive in the used-car business. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will lease property next to five of its stores in the Houston area to a Connecticut-based car sales company for six months. Wal-Mart will then evaluate the program.

* Associated British Foods agreed to buy Mazola oils, Argo cornstarches and 17 other lines from Unilever for $360 million in cash to become North America’s biggest maker of brand-name cooking products for the home.

* Biovail Corp. agreed to settle U.S. government claims that it improperly listed a patent with the Food and Drug Administration to prevent generic competition with its Tiazac hypertension drug. The Canadian company is the first drug maker accused by the Federal Trade Commission of wrongfully listing a patent in the FDA’s so-called Orange Book, an official registry of patents for approved drugs.
