Planning Commission Rejects Apartment Plan

From Times Staff Reports

Plans for a 202-unit apartment complex near equestrian land in eastern Simi Valley were stalled this week by the city’s Planning Commission.

Commissioners voted 4 to 1 Wednesday to deny a proposal to greatly increase the density allowed on the six-acre site proposed for the apartments. Zoning does not currently allow an apartment complex.

The majority of commissioners said the proposed Spanish Villas at the Park complex was not compatible with the rural character of the neighborhood. The vote followed an outcry by horse owners and other residents on nearby Leeds Street.

City policy allows Los Angeles-based MW Development and Simi Valley Investment Co. to ask the City Council to reverse the Planning Commission’s ruling in the coming weeks.
