3 Big Drugstores to Leave Medicaid Program
MASSACHUSETTS

The state’s three largest drugstore chains say they are withdrawing from Massachusetts’ Medicaid program, meaning poor and disabled people could soon be shut out of more than half of the state’s pharmacies.
Gov. Jane Swift urged CVS, Walgreens and Brooks Pharmacy to reconsider and said her administration is exploring legal options to force the companies to continue filling prescriptions.
“This is a good time for a little corporate responsibility,” Swift said.
The chains said they will withdraw from the assistance program because of state budget cuts that reduce reimbursement rates for Medicaid prescriptions by 11%.
