Nearly 1,000 bicycle racers in nine categories will compete in the Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix, a U.S. Cycling Federation race, Sunday at Live Oak Park in Manhattan Beach. The world-class field features several Olympians and riders with Tour de France experience.

Jonas Carney, who finished 12th in the Olympic sprint at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, is the defending champion in the men’s pro race, a 90-minute criterium (riders circle a 1.4-mile loop for 90 minutes).

Gord Frazer, who finished third in the New York Cycling Championships last weekend, is also racing. Frazer finished 25 spots ahead of Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong in that race.
