Government Troops Kill 20 Paramilitary Fighters
From Times Wire Reports
Hundreds of Colombian soldiers attacked a right-wing paramilitary force in Antioquia province, killing 20 fighters and capturing 17, the army reported.
The combat came just days after President Alvaro Uribe took power on promises to pacify illegal groups fighting a 38-year-old civil war.
Army spokesman Capt. Jose Espejo said fighting began late Friday outside Segovia, 186 miles northwest of the capital, Bogota. The paramilitary group is battling leftist insurgents in the province.
