Guatemalan Girls Remain Stable
The vital signs of Guatemalan twins born joined at the top of the head and separated in a lengthy surgery remained stable Saturday, hospital officials said.
Doctors have begun intravenous feeding for Maria de Jesus Quiej Alvarez and her sister, Maria Teresa. The year-old girls were still listed in critical condition.
Clarice Marsh, director of pediatric nursing at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital, has said the girls are improving each day.
The sisters were separated Tuesday in an operation that lasted more than 22 hours. They face follow-up surgeries to reconstruct their skulls.
