3 Student Members of Education Boards OKd

Gov. Gray Davis on Friday appointed three student members to sit on top education boards in California.

Stephanie Lee, 16, from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, will join the 11-member State Board of Education. Lee will serve a one-year term and have full voting rights.

M. Alexander Lopez, 21, will sit on the California State University Board of Trustees. Lopez is a junior in the business administration program and is student president at Cal State Fullerton. Lopez will also have a one-year term but no voting rights at board meetings.

Davis appointed Ayanna A. Bledsoe, 21, as a member of the Student Aid Commission. Bledsoe is a student at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Her term expires in June 2004.

Bledsoe and Lee’s nominations need to be confirmed by the state Senate.
