Taking Another Look at God’s Work

Share

I am extremely impressed with the accomplishments made by the Dream Center in such a short time (“On Faith Alone,” by Bob Emmers, July 21). However, the article incorrectly refers to the church as part of the New Church Movement. Wasn’t Jesus’ message and service to render a helping hand to the sick, poor and homeless? Did he not feed and comfort them? I feel Pastor Matthew Barnett has created what we should call the “Old Church”--one that is truly doing the work that God/Jesus wanted his followers to do. Just look at the salary Barnett receives, and you can see he’s not there for the money. If others would follow his example, I believe we could feed the poor, shelter the homeless and solve a multitude of problems that society does not want to deal with.

Thanks for the great article on the Dream Center. I visited a couple of months ago and loved it! The inside was filled with the most remarkable human tapestry. The unity in the room isn’t something I can describe in writing; it has to be experienced. I will say, however, that it heightened my understanding of God. The front two rows were filled with Los Angeles police officers. They were invited to be honored by the church, and as they were called to the stage, the congregation spontaneously rose and applauded. Kind words of appreciative support were offered and prayers filled the room.

What an incredible story! I am overjoyed that a single decision made by one man to become a blessing to his community has mobilized such monumental change in so short a period of time. This man and his congregation, with its service-based worship, are truly serving the world.
