Personal Accountability

Re “Senate Passes Gun Liability Bill,” Aug. 15: Let me see if I understand the California Senate’s actions clearly. If a product (e.g., car, household appliance, toy) malfunctions while being used properly and responsibly by its operator, injures the operator and/or anyone else, the victim or victims of that malfunctioning product can seek legal recourse against the manufacturer. Now the Senate states that even if the product (e.g., gun) does not malfunction but is used improperly by the operator, the victims of that nonmalfunctioning product can still sue the manufacturers. I have a question: Will the Senate, in order to remain consistent, be passing a bill redefining the word “accountability”?
