Midwife Faces Charges for Baby’s Birth Injuries
- Share via
A midwife is facing criminal charges for her part in a home birth two years ago in which the infant was seriously injured.
Nan Koehler, 61, faces six years in prison if convicted of felony child endangerment and other charges. Sonoma County prosecutors and state medical officials said Koehler’s actions during the home birth of Trystan Condon on Feb. 8, 2000, caused the boy to suffer brain damage when he stopped breathing during the birth.
Koehler, an author, herbalist and teacher, denied wrongdoing and said she is being unfairly targeted by the medical establishment.
