Politically Corrected

Share

Enough already! Every issue of The Times seems to contain at least one use of that hackneyed term “politically correct.” It surfaces repeatedly in readers’ letters--and not just editorial letters in the California section but also the public forums in Living, Calendar and Sports. Heck, it’s even popped up on the comics pages.

Whatever meaning was originally attached to this worn-out, banal bromide has been completely diluted, and it’s time to do away with it altogether. Tossing off a trite expression like this is intellectually lazy and allows the writer to avoid the exertion of using critical thought to bolster an argument. Considering the laughable overuse of “politically correct,” the comics pages may be the only relevant place for it.
