Bruins Will Enjoy the View This Time

It’s not required viewing, but plenty of the Bruins will be checking out the Colorado State-Colorado game today.

UCLA opens with Colorado State on Sept. 7 and plays Colorado on Sept. 21.

“I hope they bang each other pretty good,” Coach Bob Toledo said.

The Bruins will have meetings today but won’t practice.

“It’s going to be a good scouting day,” linebacker Marcus Reese said. “We’re going to see what they’ve got, see what they’re made of.

“This game is good because they’re both rivals. They’re not going to be hiding anything.”

It might feel as if the season is starting without the Bruins, but that’s all right.

“Definitely, it helps us,” cornerback Ricky Manning Jr. said. “I remember trying to watch film this summer, and it’s kind of confusing because you don’t know who’s coming back and you really can’t see who’s who. Now you know exactly what’s going on, who’s playing where and who’s doing what.”

The players won’t practice today or Sunday.

Reese was dressed for practice but didn’t take part in contact drills because of a concussion.

Toledo said Reese might be cleared by doctors to practice Monday, but Toledo is already considering trimming Reese’s special teams duty as a precaution.

Reese considers his most recent concussion mild but isn’t sure how many he has had and said he isn’t worried about repeated damage.

“Shoot, I don’t know. I’ve had quite a few. It’s a rough game,” he said. “None of them have been serious. So it’s not really scary.”

He’s just waiting for an OK to play.

“It’s up to the doctors,” Reese said. “They’re very cautious about concussions. I can’t tell the doctors what to do.”
