Retrial Ordered for Egyptian American

Egypt’s highest appeals court ordered a second retrial for an Egyptian American sociologist, overturning his conviction for tarnishing the nation’s image with his writings on democracy and human rights.
Saad Eddin Ibrahim, 64, was released immediately after the ruling and drove out of Cairo’s Tora prison.
“It’s a wonderful day,” wife Barbara Ibrahim said. Human rights groups had condemned her husband’s conviction and seven-year sentence last year as politically motivated, and the case strained ties with the U.S.
