From Times Wire Reports
Monks, students and beauty queens gathered outside the royal palace to take part in elaborate ceremonies marking the 75th birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest-reigning monarch in the world.
Fireworks will light the skies Thursday night, and countless charitable deeds, such as the donation of blood, will be carried out to honor the king, who was crowned in 1946. Thai authorities also began releasing 5,600 detainees jailed for minor offenses.
