Man Who Sold SUV Used in Kenya Bombing Is Questioned
Police were questioning a Kenyan man who said he sold the vehicle used in a suicide attack at a hotel frequented by Israelis, investigators said Wednesday.
Police also detained two other men, based on witness reports that they were near the spot where two missiles were launched last Thursday, narrowly missing an airliner carrying tourists back to Tel Aviv, Deputy Police Commissioner William Langat said.
Meanwhile, the British Embassy in Nairobi closed its offices until further notice because of a “specific threat,” spokesman Mark Norton said.
Langat said Wednesday that none of those detained in connection with last week’s attacks -- including 10 taken into custody from a Somali fishing boat -- was a suspect.
The hotel blast and resulting fire killed 10 Kenyans, three Israelis and three bombers.
The seller of the car used in the blast told police he sold the green Mitsubishi Pajero on Nov. 15 to “two Arab-looking young men” who traded in a Toyota Corolla.
