Pasadena’s Doubletree to Be Renovated, Renamed

Pasadena’s Doubletree Hotel will become the Westin Pasadena next week as part of a $9-million upgrade of the 12-story tower near Old Pasadena.

The hotel was built in 1989 by Los Angeles-based MaguirePartners as part of Plaza Las Fuentes.

The 3.5-acre complex includes an eight-story office building, courtyard gardens and two free-standing restaurants. A second, five-story office tower at the northwest corner of Colorado Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue is under construction.

Westin is a division of New York-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. Doubletree is a division of Hilton Hotels Corp., which is based in Beverly Hills.

“Pasadena has been at the top of our development list for a long time,” said Geoff Ballotti, executive vice president of North American hotel operations for Starwood. The company also operates the Sheraton Pasadena Hotel.

The $9-million makeover by MaguirePartners will take place over three years, beginning with upgrades to the beds and bathrooms. It eventually will include other refurbishments of the 350 guest rooms, lobby and other public areas. MaguirePartners also owns the Sheraton Pasadena.

The contract to manage the hotel at Plaza Las Fuentes will pass from Hilton to Starwood on Dec. 20.
