The city of Lancaster has hired former Republican Assemblyman George Runner as a special assistant to City Manager James Gilley.
Runner, 50, recently left the 36th Assembly District due to term limits. The seat was filled by his wife, Sharon.
Runner, who was mayor of Lancaster from 1995 to 1996, will be paid $100,000 a year. He will lobby Sacramento on a number of projects for the city, including a four-year public university, Gilley said.
