Athens’ Mayor-Elect Escapes Ambush
From Times Wire Reports
Athens’ mayor-elect narrowly escaped an ambush similar to the one that left her a widow 13 years ago.
Dora Bakoyianni apparently was aided by luck: She bent down to pick up her purse at the instant of the close-range shotgun strike, police said.
Authorities said the main suspect is a 35-year-old car mechanic who has undergone psychiatric treatment. Bakoyianni’s late husband, Pavlos, was a conservative political leader who was killed in 1989 by the November 17 terrorist group.
