* Honeywell International Inc. said it expects to take a charge of $1.9 billion in the fourth quarter to settle asbestos lawsuits, write down the value of assets and cut jobs. The charge will total $2.30 a share, causing a quarterly net loss of about $1.80.

* Rite Aid Corp. said its fiscal third-quarter loss narrowed to $16.4 million, or 5 cents a share, compared with $112.8 million, or 23 cents, in the year-earlier quarter. Sales rose 4% to $3.9 billion.

* Nike Inc.’s second-quarter profit rose 18% as the world’s largest maker of athletic shoes sold more products at full price and reduced costs. Net income climbed to $152 million, or 57 cents a share. Sales gained 7.6% to $2.51 billion.

* Burger King Corp. named Darden Restaurant Inc. Vice Chairman Bradley Blum, 48, as chief executive.

* 3Com Corp. posted a fiscal second-quarter loss of $69 million as the maker of networking equipment continued to weather a drop in corporate spending. 3Com lost 19 cents a share on sales of $303 million. In the period last year, it lost $103.7 million, or 30 cents a share, on sales of $393.9 million.
