Philadelphia Provides Miami New Police Chief
From Times Wire Reports
Miami hired former Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Timoney as the new chief of its department, tarnished by police shootings and brutality charges.
Timoney, who also has served as a deputy commissioner of the New York Police Department, was also a candidate for Los Angeles police chief. He is set to take the reins of the 1,100-officer Miami department Jan. 2.
The Justice Department said in June it was investigating the department at the request of Mayor Manny Diaz and retiring Police Chief Raul Martinez.
