A burgeoning arts district around the renovated Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Wash., got a huge boost when plans for a large entertainment complex were announced.

A block of office buildings just west of the Davenport will be renovated into a 1,500-seat concert hall and dance club with a Cajun-style restaurant.

The block is owned by Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities Co. of Spokane, and will be operated by Bravo Entertainment of Boise, Idaho.

The proposed Big Easy Concert House will cost more than $7 million and will open by the end of 2003, Metropolitan Mortgage said.

The area around the Davenport has seen a profusion of art galleries, coffeehouses, restaurants and other entertainment options open in the last year.
