Voicing Dissent
Regarding “Here’s a Vast Conspiracy for You: to Kill Interest in Public Affairs,” Steve Lopez’s Dec. 22 column challenging us to respond to President Bush’s war plan: I believe there is no one listening to the dissent. Many have marched at the local bank lot each week. We’ve written to our senators and representatives; signed petitions; called the White House, Senate and House comment lines; sent numerous e-mails; and had weekly prayers for peace at our church. True, we have gone shopping because we want to celebrate with our families in this season of hope. But we know violence begets violence and there is a potential for nuclear disaster in the presidential plan. So how do we register our dissent and have someone listen?
