Judge Hands EPA a Win in Libby Cleanup Effort

A U.S. district court judge has upheld the Environmental Protection Agency’s cleanup efforts in the asbestos-tainted town of Libby but said a trial is needed to determine how much of the $55.6-million bill W.R. Grace & Co. must pay.
The decision rejected claims by the company, which operated a vermiculite mine linked to contamination blamed for illness and deaths in the community in northwestern Montana.
