Lawyers for pop singer Gloria Trevi contended Wednesday that the judge overseeing her case is biased against her and should be removed from the trial.

Trevi’s 10 lawyers said they plan to present a petition seeking to replace Judge Hector Talamantes to lawmakers in Chihuahua province, where the trial is taking place.

Talamantes has refused to speak to the media.

Late Tuesday, Talamantes ruled that there was enough evidence to try Trevi for rape, kidnapping and corruption of minors.

He also refused Trevi’s request for bail and ordered her held in a maximum-security prison for the trial’s duration.

Trevi, nicknamed “Mexico’s Madonna,” allegedly recruited adolescent girls for live-in musical training and then forced them to have sex with her manager, Sergio Andrade.

Trevi’s lawyers had hoped that the judge would dismiss some of the charges or release her from prison.
