School Fund-Raiser for Budget Shortfalls

Share

Re “School Board OKs Cuts of $56 Million,” Jan. 25: More budget cuts? My children’s school has seven fund-raisers, and we started to ask for direct donations (because parents are tired of having to do fund-raisers year after year) to cover what’s cut this school year, so we can continue to have a good public school in the LAUSD. We can manage all this because we have a strong PTA that does whatever it takes so we can minimize the effect of budget cuts.

What about those schools that are already having problems--low performance, socially disadvantaged students and no PTA support? The government keeps saying it wants our children to excel in their education, but the government keeps taking away the resources. I’m confused. I thought we were supposed to get more money for our children’s education.

How about the lottery money--what happened to that? And I heard the BB money is gone too. These are not rhetorical questions; I would like someone to explain these things to me.
