The crown prince of the Netherlands married a party-loving Argentine investment banker Saturday in ceremonies that combined Dutch simplicity with regal splendor. Thunderous cheers from thousands of spectators signaled the blessing of his people.

Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, 34, and Maxima Zorreguieta, 30, exchanged civil vows before the mayor of Amsterdam in an unpretentious, former trading exchange building.

Two hours later, they knelt before a Dutch Reformed minister and a Roman Catholic priest in a cavernous 600-year-old church to consecrate the union.

An estimated 80,000 people, many waving flags and wearing the color of the ruling family--the 450-year-old House of Orange--lined the two-mile procession route to watch the newlyweds roll past in a century-old gilded carriage drawn by six geldings.

The guest list included kings, queens, dukes and counts.
